Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh commissions new railway line between Jaggayya Peta Town and Mellacheruvu (On Completion of Which upto Vishunupuram Reduces the distance between Visakhapatnam & Secunderabad by 60 Kms) on 4th May, 2012


Shri N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh commissioned the newly laid broad gauge line between Jaggayya Peta Town and Mellacheruvu at a function held at Mellacheruvu Railway Station today (4th May, 2012). He unveiled a Plaque and flagged off a Goods Train o­n the newly laid line along with the other dignitaries present o­n the dais. Smt. V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Indira Kranthi Patham, Pensions, Self Help Groups & Women Development, Child Welfare & Disabled Welfare, Juvenile Welfare, Govt. of AP; Shri K. Jana Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Panchayat Raj & Rural Water Supply, Govt. of AP; Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Housing, Weaker Section Housing Programme, AP Co-operative Housing Societies Federation & AP Housing Board, Govt. of AP and Shri Gutha Sukender Reddy, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Nalgonda were the Guests of Honour. 
Many public representatives, dignitaries and senior officials from South Central Railway were present o­n the occasion.

Speaking o­n the occasion, Shri Kiran Kumar Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of AP, expressed his happiness overthe speedy progress of Jaggayya Peta Town-Vishnupuram New Railway Line Project andpraised Shri G.N. Asthana, General Manager, South Central Railway for his close monitoring of the progress of the works o­n Jaggayya Peta Town-Mellacheruvu section.Pointing out that the expectations of the people was very high, the Chief Minister asked the General Manager of South Central Railway to speed up all the o­ngoing projects in AP and assured the cooperation of Govt. of AP in all respect to see that Govt. of AP and SCR would emerge as the winning team. Shri Gutha Sukender Reddy, MP,in his address,said thatrailway lines were serving as the arteries of economic progress and expressed hope that the cluster of existing and upcoming industries in this area would utilize the new line to the maximum to generate more employment opportunities. Shri G.N. Asthana, General Manager, SC Railway, in his welcome address, thanked the Government of AP fortremendous cooperation in the area of land acquisition, costsharing for certainnew railway projects in AP. He informed thatthe completion of the new line o­n the entire stretch between Vishnupuram-Jaggayyapeta Town in The near future, would create an alternate route between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam duly reducing the distance approximately by 60 kms. The General Manager assured thatno stone would be left unturned in the process of ensuring speedy completion ofongoing railway projects in the economically vibrant state of Andhra Pradesh.



Salient Features of Mellacheruvu – Jaggayya Peta Town New Railway Line:

·The New Line between Jaggayya Peta Town - Mellacheruvu (20.6 km) is part of the New Line Project between Jaggayya Peta Town - Vishnupuram (60 Kms). Jaggayya Peta Town is connected by an existing line to Kazipet - Vijayawada section at Motumari. and Vishnupuram is an existing station o­n Nadikudi - Bibinagar section.
·Total estimated costof Jaggayya peta Town & Vishnupuram (60 Km) new line Project is Rs.366 cr.
·The New Line between Jaggayya Peta Town - Mellacheruvu (20.6 Km) is completed at a cost of Rs.139 Cr . The Section was already cleared for Goods traffic in March 2012.
·There are 2 Major Bridges, 43 Minor Bridges and 7 ROB/RUBs in Jaggayyapet - Mellacheruvu Section.
·The Land utilized for this Project is around 90 Hectares including 21.7 Hectares of Forest Land.
·The Jaggayya Peta Town - Mellacheruvu (20.6 Kms) line passes through Nalgonda and Krishna Districts with Railway stations at Jaggayya Peta Town , Revuru Ramapuram and Mellacheruvu.·Laying of new Line ie., between Vishnupuram - Janpahad (11 Kms), part of Jaggayya Peta Town- Vishnupuram new line project, is also nearing completion at a cost ofRs.53 cr. and will beopened for Goods traffic shortly.
·The New Line work o­n the remaining portion ie., between Janpahad-Mellacheruvu (28.4 Kms) has also been sanctioned in 2011-12 at a cost of Rs.174 cr. Final location survey and land acquisition are under active process. 


Benefits of Mellacheruvu – Jaggayya Peta Town New Railway Line:

This Line forms part of the crucial link line, connecting two existing Main Lines , viz. Vijayawada-Kazipet trunk routeandNadikudi-Bibinagarmain route.

This expanded Rail connectivity brings the people of Nalgond aand Krishna Districts much closer and will serve industries, trade, agricultural and social sector in this region toaccelerate over all economic growth.

After completion of the entire stretch of Vishnupuram –Janpahad-Mellacheruvu-Jaggayyapeta Town for a distance of 60 kms., this line will serve as an alternate and shorter route between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, reducing the distance approximately by 60 kms, when compared to the existing main route via Kazipet.

This Line will give impetus to the socio-economic growth of this resource-rich region by facilitating easier and quicker movement of raw materials and finished products in bulk by Rail.

At present, it serves the freight needs of
a)MyHome Industries
b)JP Balajee Cements
c)Zuari Cements and 
d)FCI Godowns.

On further extension up to Vishnupuram, this line benefitsseveral existing and upcoming Cement companiesin this cluster. It is likely to generate an additional10 Million Tonnes of Freight Loading o­n South Central Railway
